VEX Robotics Workshops - Summer 2024

This summer AIM are running VEX Robotics Workshops in rural areas around Sligo, Leitrim and surrounding cross border towns.

Kids aged 8+ can attend these workshops to get a taste for VEX Robotics and discover if there’s an aspiring engineer within.

Kids will learn how to design, build, and programme a VEX Robot, and then use their robot to play games with their teams. This is fantastic taster into the world of technology for any child.

For student of schools that participate in the Global VEX Competition, they will get a first look at the 2025 Competition Kit. So if you want a competitive advantage, you know what to do!

Keep an eye on our social media channels or Eventbrite for updates on upcoming VEX workshops in your local area. If you do not see a workshop near you, send us an email via info@aimcentre.ie and we may bring one your way.

If your child is attending our upcoming workshops, please note that they will need:

  • - Flat shoes and comfortable clothes

  • - A light lunch and drink

  • - Bundles of brain power!

VEX Competitions 2024/25

This year, AIM are taking the roll of Cluster Leader for the roll out of VEX IQ in Primary Schools around the Sligo, Leitrim, Mayo and surrounding border towns.

This is a global competition run through local primary schools for kids aged 11+ years. Each primary school must sign up to take part.

As Cluster Leader, AIM will engage schools with our outreach programme, which will involve the following:

  • - Teacher training, to ensure teachers are equipped with the skills needed to support their students.

  • - Term time outreach, where we come to you for an interactive workshop and help you get ahead of the competition!

  • - Scrimmages, where students attend the AIM Centre on Saturday mornings to go head-to-head with other schools in the locality.

The Regional Competition will take place in January 2025 at the Knocknarea Area in ATU Sligo. The National Competition takes place in February 2025 in MTU, Cork. The location of the Global Competition is yet to be announced for 2025. In previous years the competition has been held in Dallas, TX.

If you are interested in taking part, you will need a VEX Robotics Competition Kit and you’ll need to register with AIM. Please complete the form below and we will be in touch.

Please note that it is recommended that there is approximately 10 students per Competition Kit to ensure students get the most out of their experience and learning. For large classes, you can enter additional teams, but each team will need a kit. Alternatively, you can work as a group and select the students most interested to participate in the competition.
